I’ve hidden (and will continue to hide) rocks with this blog’s web site address to honor my dad. If you find one of my painted rocks, I would love to see which one you found. Please post a picture and a comment. – I would love to hear from you.
In my first blog, I stated that I was planning on hiding 99 rocks in honor of what would have been his 99th birthday. I have enjoyed this little project so much, I don’t think I will stop painting rocks! I had done some rock painting with my granddaughters, but with this project, I’ve really come to enjoy it. I have a few original designs, but most are just copies of what I’ve seen on Facebook or Pinterest.
All of the rocks found have been painted with acrylic paint and sealed with epoxy. I would not leave them in the sun though because the acrylic paint is not for outdoor use.
Hi I loved the idea of the painted rocks and Happy Late Birthday! Thank you so much for the painted rock it’s a beautiful, colorful penguin!
I have just found a beautiful rock! Happy Late Birthday! You have amazing art skills and I love the penguin with dots! Also I love the idea of this rock theme for your dad’s birthday! Thank you!
I found one of your rocks when I stopped for gas this morning! It’s a little yellow chick 🐤. It was the pick me up I needed this morning. I moved here to Arkansas just under 2 years ago now to be closer to my parents. They moved back to Colorado this morning and already I miss them. My mom raised me and my siblings on her own and my stepdad willingly and openly accepted all 4 of us into his life and took over the Dad role for us without a moments hesitation.
It’s so nice knowing that you loved your dad so much. He was a really lucky guy to have a son like you. Thank you for the rock and for the celebration of life.
I am so glad you found the little yellow chick! I’m glad you had a good stepdad too. I hope you are able to see your family soon – especially now for the holidays. God bless you and yours~

Came in to work and found a beautiful, very colorful rock by our front door. Thank you so much! Brightened my day! What a lovely tribute to your father!
Thank you for letting me know you found the rock and for stopping by blog. I hope you enjoy the rock. God Bless ~
I went out to my mailbox and found one of your painted rocks. What a labor of love. Your kindness and generous gift came at a time when within one weeks time two family members passed away. I found this page on the rock and read about your dad. Thank you for sharing his story and yours. I’m sorry for your loss . Your painted rock has warmed my heart and in the spirit of giving I will pay it forward. Thank you again.
Blessings
Thank you Marcy – I am so glad you found it. It really helped me to honor my dad this way. Love ya! Ellie
I was thrilled to find my first painted rock today while having lunch at Gabriele’s today! My sister and nephew have been asking me to join them in rock hunting for the past few days but I haven’t found the time. We are members of a Facebook page, Espanola Rocks, where community members in the Valley publish posts and pictures of painting rocks, hiding them and finding them. In some instances, prizes are also left with the rock (money, ear rings, etc.). I must say, I found the best prize of all – your rock on your dad’s 99th birthday! I’m the Chairman of the Rio Arriba County Commission and the Democratic Nominee for New Mexico Senate District 5. I’m going to keep the rock for luck through the November 3, 2020 General Election (which also happens to be my birthday)! I know that this adorable porcupine rock will be my lucky charm! I loved reading your blog and like your dad, I too am a proud LANL employee. Thank you for the lucky charm and happy heavenly birthday William, I have lit a candle this evening in your memory and for your birthday! – Leo Jaramillo
Thank you Leo. I did not know about Espanola Rocks – I will have to check out their site on Fb. The porcupine is my original design so I am very happy that it has a home with someone who values it. Most of the rocks I paint I get the ideas from Fb or Pinterest. Best of luck to you in the election and on your birthday!
We found it at the Los Alamos Duck pond! It is so pretty! It won’t let us post a picture, but it is black with colorful flowers!
I’m so glad you found it! Most of all, I am so grateful that you stopped by my dad’s page to let me know. Have a great day~
