When I was cleaning out my dad’s bedroom closet tucked way way way in the back, was a little blue metal box. I had never seen that before and was curious as to what was in it. There were small and varied sizes of paper that were maps and cryptic notes to his friends.
It seems that him and his friends had a secret club where they would hide clues and have “drops” for them to leave items. His name was Zulu and it appears he and his buddies kept their code names until they were in College.
Being a mom I, of course, thought that this was an absolute treasure of a find! When I talked to my dad about my find, he just chuckled and said he had forgotten about the box. When I pressed him for details and stories, he said he didn’t remember any stories. I could tell he was lying and I guessed he didn’t want to talk about his childhood maps and codes. He had quite a macho ego so I suspected he didn’t want to look foolish.
I just thought these little pieces of his childhood were so revealing of the time that he grew up and the adventures he had.
